Visited a site in Lekki today. The air conditioning was so loud it made conversation impossible. The developer didn't notice. The residents have adapted. This is what happens when you design for the brochure and not for the life inside.

Finished reading Yoshida Kenkō's Essays in Idleness. Written in 14th century Japan. Still the clearest writing on attention, space, and impermanence I've encountered. Restraint is not an aesthetic choice — it is a philosophical one.

Every great Lagos space I've been in has a courtyard or its equivalent — a protected interior that creates a different quality of air, light, and sound from the street. The compound is not just architectural. It is civilisational.
